OUR PARTNERS
Eye Tech Care, based in Lyon, France, was founded in 2008 by experts in the field of therapeutic ultrasound, in partnership with INSERM (National Institute of Health and Medical Research). It develops and markets medical devices for the non-invasive treatment of eye diseases.
Ultrasound is widely used in ophthalmology, including diagnostics (ultrasound biomicroscopy – ‘UBM’) for the imaging of the anterior chamber of the eye, and treatment (phacoemulsification procedure for cataracts as an example).
Focused ultrasound has already been used in many medical fields such as in the treatment of certain tumors and some neurological diseases.
When used at high frequency, focused ultrasound has the potential to coagulate tissues with pinpoint accuracy.
Eye Tech Care has developed a miniaturized device adapted to anatomy of the human eye, using focused ultrasound to coagulate portions of the ciliary body, to reduce the production of aqueous humor, thereby reducing intraocular pressure.
This is a simple, non-invasive, technique. The ultrasound beam easily passes through surface tissues, without damage, targeting the deep tissues without the need for surgery. The patented technology allows high precision of the focal zone, and control of the temperature rise at the focal point.
